MasterCard/VISA contactless is an international card linked to the client’s account and dedicated to natural or legal persons.
This “contactless” card technology offers the opportunity to make purchases at any point of sale (POS terminal) in Kosovo and anywhere in the world where the contactless logo is displayed.
Making payments through “contactless” technology:
• To make purchases, it is necessary that the card and the POS terminal where the transaction is made are licensed with the technology (NFC – Near Field Communication) where payments are made through radio magnetic waves.
• Making payments is enabled at close range where communication is made through the antenna technology that is located on the card.
• When making a payment, the user presents the card at close range (up to 4 cm) to the POS terminal and for amounts up to certain limits, the transaction is completed without entering the PIN or signing the receipt.
The benefits of using “contactless” card technology are:
• Payments are made easily,
• Payments are made quickly (no need to read the card from the POS or enter the PIN),
• Payments are made securely.
The limits for payments with “contactless” cards are set by the MasterCard and VISA brands. The limit for a card transaction, without having to type the PIN, with a Mastercard card is €15, while for a VISA card it is €40. For all payments above these limits, a PIN is required during the purchase.
All payments made at POS Terminals in Kosovo are commission-free.
